The coolest Zoetrope EVER . . .

What’s a Zoetrope, well by definition it’s a 19th-century optical toy consisting of a cylinder with a series of pictures on the inner surface that, when viewed through slits with the cylinder rotating, give an impression of continuous motion.

You’ve probably seen one before, but none like this. ENJOY!

it starts with Why? . . .

How often do people stop and ask themselves “Why am I doing this?” (try it sometime with something mundane, it’s especially weird), before we get too contemplative, you should really check out the fantastic TED Talk below.

It’s from Simon Sinek, a marketing consultant, who developed the Golden Circle of What, How and Why. His aptly titled book – “It Starts With Why” explores the concept and illustrates how understanding why we do something is the linchpin to inspiring action. His TED talk gives you a cliff notes version. We highly recommend both.

This is part of the Ukrainian Independence Day Celebration, they apparently mapped this building, and then projected some really cool stuff on it. Enjoy it below – stay with it past the first 30 seconds or so, you will not be disappointed.

6 Minutes from 127 Hours

See the real Aron Ralston describe/re-enact his own amputation

Although I haven’t seen the movie 127 Hours yet (It’s on the short list), I’m very familiar with the story of Aron Ralston, the hiker who cut off his own arm in order to free himself from the boulder under which said arm was pinned.

The movie looks pretty fantastic. It’s directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire/28 Days Later/Trainspotting), and I read where he used incredibly long takes, sometimes 20 to 30 minutes, to allow James Franco, who’s playing Ralston, to really explore his predicament. He then would go back and cherry pick the best moments from those takes and cut them together, which is IMHO a stroke of real genius. Can’t wait to see it.

I remembered watching Ralston share his story with Tom Brokaw and just how amazing it was. Below is a 6 minute clip where he describes, in detail, his own amputation. It’s very moving.

Andrew WK is just plain funny.

Maybe you get him, maybe you don’t, but every time I see Andrew WK, he usually makes me laugh. I also happen to dig his music, it’s all about fun, which in this interview clip, he surely seems to be having. It’s from 2009, so I’m a little late, but you should check it out regardless.

A “Tribute” to the Dallas Observer Music Awards

Someone has been nominated for one.

Those of you in the know, already know, but for those who don’t one of our team members is in Beastie Boys Tribute Band called Rhymin N Stealin. Now it seems as though the Dallas Observer has “observed” them in the highly-esteemed “Best Cover/Tribute Band” category, along with Boys Named Sue, Hard Night’s Day
Le Cure, The King Bucks, and Petty Theft.

Ok so it’s not really that prestigious, after all they’re just doing other peoples songs, but it’s still kinda cool. If you’d like to vote please do so here.
